About The Artist
Mike Fitzsimmons is a self-taught
metal artist in Rochester, New York who found his appreciation for metalworking
and metal sculpture while attending State University of New York at Morrisville.
Enrolled in the automotive program at Morrisville, Mike studied under a master metal worker who
was employed by the Mercedes-Benz Company in Germany. In addition to automotive studies,
Mike also completed a degree in Mechanical Design Engineering.
After college, Mike worked as a Design Engineer for both large and small
companies. All the while continuing his love for metalworking and
metal sculpture in outside ventures,
a passion that ultimately led him to the restoration and custom
fabrication of classic automobiles.
In 2002 Mike evolved from automotive art to fine metal art, leading to
the establishment of iT Fitz Designs. The change was prompted by his current engineering
position, which involves building custom medical instruments for the surgical
industry. In this profession, he was required to free hand sculpt
models during the prototype phase of Design Engineering, which
rekindled his profound appreciation for fine art.
The metal artwork Mike produces is derived from a love for the outdoors, encompassing the shapes,
textures and colors found in nature.
The use of flowing designs, mechanical components, and fine metal
coloring and finishing is what drives iT Fitz Designs.
